Our Outreach Mission

As a community of Technology professionals, SIM Boston partners with and promotes non-profit organizations that advance the diversity of Technology talent in our local communities, specifically individuals who are Black, Latinx, women or who identify with other under-represented groups.

SIM Boston Grants

SIM Boston also provides funding to its outreach partners that supports specific initiatives or program improvements to elevate their effectiveness and impact. If you are interested in a grant, download our funding proposal application below.

Outreach Partners

Year Up United

Year Up’s mission is to close the opportunity divide by ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education. As our oldest partnership, SIM Boston continues program support including its annual graduation ceremony where the Don Brown Scholarship recognizes the outstanding IT graduate.

Boston Private Industry Council

For more than 40 years, the PIC has worked at the intersection of business and community interests to connect Boston residents to promising career pathways, while creating a diverse talent pipeline for local employers. Our work is grounded in the belief that meaningful employment changes lives, lifts people out of poverty, and strengthens the local economy. We partner with the Boston Public Schools to connect school to career and with leading institutions and employers to promote equitable practices.

ResilientCoders.org

Resilient Coders trains people of color for high growth careers as software engineers, and connects them to apprenticeship opportunities. They introduce them to a career path that is lucrative, meaningful, and intellectually rewarding.

BPS Tech

SIM Boston funds an award to the school with the highest participation in the district-wide BPS Coders initiative every December during Computer Science Education Week. Click here to learn more about computer science initiatives in BPS.

Per Scholas

At Per Scholas, we believe a thriving workforce starts with equitable access to education. By providing skills training and access to employer networks to individuals often excluded from tech careers, Per Scholas envisions a technology workforce as diverse as the customers it serves. Over 11,000 graduates have launched successful careers in tech to date through our no-cost technical training. Our mission is to advance economic equity through rigorous training for tech careers, and to connect skilled talent to leading businesses.

Volunteer

We’re inviting industry professionals, hiring managers, and HR leaders to partner with us in preparing our IT Support, Cybersecurity, and Salesforce Administrator learners for successful careers in technology.

Help learners sharpen their interview skills and build confidence through live practice and constructive feedback. Mock Interview sessions typically require just a 1–2 hour commitment and can be held virtually or in person at our Kendall Square campus in Cambridge.

Prefer to inspire through storytelling? Share your career journey and advice with early-career professionals as a Lunch & Learn presenter. Sessions take place during our global lunch hour (12–1 pm) and can also be hosted virtually or in person. We’ll support you with structure and expectations—your authentic story is what matters most.

Why Volunteer?

Thanks to dedicated volunteers like you, learners consistently report feeling more prepared, polished, and empowered to succeed in real-world interviews and professional environments. If you are interested in signing up for either of our volunteer opportunities, click the respective button below to go to the sign-up page.
